As a lawyer and a state legislator, I am very familiar with the workers compensation system. At least I thought I was, until I read Fred Sapp’s authoritative work. I was absolutely surprised by the number of things I learned about workers compensation by reading this book. His years in the system, working in a variety of settings and positions, have given Fred tremendous insight into the behind-the-scenes issues of workers compensation matters – which he shares in an easily readable and understandable manner. I learned a great deal, and would strongly recommend this book to lawyers, policymakers, employers, employees, and anyone else who comes into contact with workers compensation issues. Utah State Representative Stephen H. Urquhart

Fred Sapp's book gives an industry outsider the inside view of the worker's comp business which is not easy to find. His approach of using real life examples to illustrate points along with industry jargon definitions give a lay person a clear understanding of the key workings of the worker's compensation system from soup to nuts. This book has been a valuable resource. N. Tiller, Business Consultant, Washington D.C.

I wish this book had been available when I first started my career as a medical case manager in the workers compensation arena. Fred Sapp has given us a good overview of the workers compensation system in general. He accurately addresses the misconceptions in the industry and provides us with a descriptive picture of the real world of work-comp insurance. He uses his 20 plus years of experience, and his sense of humor, to teach us the intricacies of the system and offers his honest opinions about regulations, practices and policies.
The book is interesting and enjoyable reading with numerous examples and stories that specifically describe real life situations. This is a a good training tool for those starting a careeer in work-comp and an excellent bookshelf reference guide for employers, physicians, managed care nurses, case managers, vocational counselors, social workers, discharge planners, therapists and other medical providers involved in the treatment of industrially injured individuals. I plan to use this book as part of the training for new nurse case managers and vocational counselors. This book takes a complicated system and breaks it down into easily understood pieces while examing the oddities of workers compensation. Reading this book will give a rookie a good base of knowledge and provide an experienced individual with a great review of the system. Leigh Ann Turner, Vice President, Medical Management and Rehabilitation, Workers Compensation Fund.
